Cheap Vegan ShoesI love beautiful expensive shoes as much as the next vegan fashionista, though truth be told I can’t always fit such luxuries in the budget.

Enter… cheap vegan shoes!

Now when I talk about cheap vegan shoes, they may or may not be environmentally friendly. I would love to tackle that too, but for the purposes of this post I’ll just stick to the subject of affordability.

Affordable vegan shoes are getting easier and easier to find.

You hear me talk a lot about PayLess, I have never seen leather there. That doesn’t mean I won’t one day, but I haven’t yet and that makes me happy. If you are looking for cheap vegan shoes, belts, or even handbags, Payless is a great place to try.

I have had good luck at places like Target and Kohls too. I have found that there are more and more cheap vegan options out there for shoes.

Here’s the key: look for the word man-made and make sure that it is. If the shoe is not marked it is probably man-made, only because most people still consider leather to be a selling point.

As I always say, double-check with the company. If the shoe (or whatever you’re contacting them about) isn’t vegan you have at least raised awareness that their customers are seeking vegan options.

What are your favorite “cheap” vegan shoes?

I often wonder when I buy “man made” shoes does that really mean vegan though? There are all the glues to consider for example. I saw an article about how just one pig is used 183 products!! this was after the meat was taken from it, then more obvious things like gelatine, but it said that pig by products are used in a lot of glues especially glues used for shoes. So while it’s great to buy non leather I wonder should I buy shoes specifically marked “vegan” what do you think?

Great point, Linda! Ideally, it would be best to buy shoes marked “vegan.” I generally recommend man-made shoes, especially for those vegans who are just starting out, as man-made shoes are more accessible and (often) more affordable than strictly vegan shoes. It’s one of those cases in which man-made shoes may not be completely ideal but are a big move in the right direction =).
