Driving home from work one day, I noticed that one of my favorite health food stores had been replaced–by a barbecue pork restaurant!
As much as I love the city where I live, it isn’t exactly what I would call “vegan friendly.” It seems like every time I turn around, there is a new steak house opening up but there are no good veggie places.
Thankfully, this isn’t a problem. With some planning ahead and a few simple tricks, it’s easy to ensure that even a strict vegan like me can have a great time going out with friends without compromising on my vegan lifestyle.
One idea is to plan ahead of time. Pack snacks.
Eat before you go out and then have a drink instead of ordering a meal. At first, this might seem odd, but it really isn’t a big deal at all. Plus, this is a good way to save money and save inches on your waistline.
There are also some great sites for finding veggie-friendly places to eat in your town. Here’s a list of sites that will help you find vegan restaurants in your area.
You can also just ask the server if they can arrange for any vegan options. Most places are pretty flexible.
With these tips, you can go out and still have a great time with friends and family without starving or feeling out of place.
Is there a shortage of vegan restaurants where you live?
